Eligibility:
Newspapers must be members of
Pacific Northwest Newspaper
Association (PNNA) to enter the
contest and win awards. Entries
may be single stories or series
and are accepted in only one
category. Please choose the
category carefully.
Publication Period:
March 1,
2007, through February 29, 2008.
Circulation Classifications:
A. Newspapers with circulation of
fewer than 50,000*.
B. Newspapers with circulation of
50,000* or more.
*Circulation figure based on
weekday or Sunday circulation as the newspaper
chooses.
Awards:
First-place award in each category
$500
Second-place award in each
category $250
If an entry is the work of two or
more writers, their award will be
divided accordingly.
Form of Entry:
Entries may be submitted by the
writer, team or newspaper.
Entries must be submitted as
unmounted, full-page tear sheets
or clippings attached to an
8.5" x 11" white paper. No scrapbooks
or notebooks. Attach a note to the
top of each entry with the
following information: the
category and circulation class (e.g.
Deadline-A, Feature-B), the name
of the newspaper and the
name(s) of the writer(s). Also
list the headline or title of the story
or series so that the judge can
easily identify it. Do not mark on
the entry. Photocopies are
acceptable but not desirable because the awards
ceremony includes a slide presentation of the
winning entries.
Computer printouts of story files
are not accepted as entries.

NOTE:
First-place
and second-place awards are offered in each
of two circulation classifications
in Coverage of Diversity, Deadline, Enterprise, Feature and
Investigative categories. A single first-place and a single
second-place award are offered in the Debby Lowman Award for
Distinguished Reporting of Consumer Affairs category,
regardless of circulation.
