2009 Print Quality Award winners named

PNNA is pleased to announce the winners of the PNNA 2009 Print Quality Awards. The contest originated in 1992 as a competition among members and subsequently was expanded to include non-members. All participating newspapers receive copies of the judges' evaluation sheets.

Judging this year was done by California Polytechnic State University's Graphic Communications Department in San Luis Obispo, headed by Harvey Levenson, Ph.D. Newspapers are rated on ink density and laydown, halftone and color separation quality, color registration, page alignment and page count, mechanical defects, lithographic defects and overall appearance. Fourteen newspapers from six states entered the contest. Awards are given for first and second place in two circulation categories: under 25,000 and 25,001 and over.

This year's winners with circulation under 25,000 are:
* Second Place: Moscow-Pullman Daily News, Lewiston, Idaho
*First Place: Tie -- Lewiston Tribune, Lewiston, Idaho; and The Chronicle, Centralia, Wash.

Winners with circulation 25,001 and over are:
* Second Place Circulation 25,000 and over: The Seattle Times, Seattle, Wash.
* First Place Circulation 25,000 and over: The Bulletin, Bend, Ore.
