MAILROOM SUPERVISOR - Small daily on the scenic Oregon coast -
We have been asked by the publishers of
The Daily Astorian in Astoria, OR to assist in their search for a proven leader to supervise their mailroom/packaging operations. The newspaper is a 5-day daily with approximately 8,000 paid circulation. It's evening delivery which means that you'll typically work a day shift, Monday through Friday, no weekends. For more about the newspaper and the parent company, visit their website at www.eopubco.com. On the home page, you'll find links to the various publications.
This newspaper company publishes the daily, and a handful of weekly and niche publications. In addition, they serve a number of outside commercial printing clients. The department is well equipped with new or recently rebuilt inserting and labeling systems. Equipment includes recently rebuilt Muller 227 inserters - 7 into 1. They also have a Kirk-Rudy Netjet ink jet printing system. While the newspapers are small in size, the quantity of publications and special sections and pre-runs add up to a complex and busy production operation in need of an experienced packaging center manager.
We are seeking a skilled, hands-on leader who is not afraid to roll-up his/her sleeves and do what it takes to get the job done. You'll need to demonstrate a high-level of competence in running and maintaining department equipment and systems. We need someone strong in scheduling people and organizing different runs with the customer always top-of-mind. Inserting accuracy is of paramount importance. Unlike most operations, this one is growing due to the addition of new printing customers. You'll oversee a stable and competent group of full and part time employees. Proven people skills are of vital importance.
Astoria is a city of 10,000 people on the Columbia River, just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean and about 100 miles West of Portland. It is, by all accounts, a beautiful place to call home. It is surrounded by the beauty of the forest, mountains, three rivers and the sea. Because of its steep hills and beautiful Victorian homes, Astoria has been called the "Little San Francisco of the Pacific Northwest." Just across Young's Bay is Warrenton, a city of 4,500 that encompasses Fort Stevens State Park and its broad, clean ocean beaches. Astoria and Warrenton have a marine climate, which means the summers are cool, with highs around 70, and the winters are mild, with few nights of freezing temperatures. The area gets about 75 inches of rain per year, which accounts for its vivid greenness and crystal clear air. There is a relatively low cost of living, including housing...and, Oregon has no state sales tax. For more about the community and the region, visit www.oldoregon.com and
www.astoria.or.us.
They offer a competitive compensation program depending upon experience. There is also a comprehensive benefits plan including a profit sharing program with a good track record. If your experience matches the requirements of the position, we'll be in touch with you very quickly to begin the interviewing process. Courtney Little, L.A.office - Media Recruiters, 323.932.9077.
